All Aboard! Scotland’s Poshest Train with Alan Cumming is a sumptuous four-part journey through Scotland aboard the legendary Royal Scotsman. Produced by 14th Floor Productions for Channel 4, the series follows Alan Cumming as he explores the train’s extraordinary world of luxury, craftsmanship and hospitality, while travelling through some of Scotland’s most spectacular landscapes.
James Gray’s original score brings together sweeping cinematic writing, intimate orchestral textures and the distinctive character of Scottish traditional music. Written to complement both the grandeur of the journey and the warmth of Alan’s encounters, the music became an essential part of the series’ identity—supporting its humour, emotion and breathtaking portrayal of Scotland.
The score earned James the 2025 Royal Television Society Scotland Award for Best Original Score, making him the inaugural winner of the category. The series went on to receive the 2025 BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Factual Entertainment, establishing All Aboard! as one of Scotland’s most acclaimed factual-entertainment productions of recent years.
Originally broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK, the series has travelled internationally through Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. In the United States it has also been broadcast through PBS under the title Alan Cumming’s Most Luxurious Train Journeys: Scotland, bringing its celebration of Scotland—and James’s award-winning score—to audiences far beyond its original UK transmission.
